Biography
Anthony Dawson (1916–1992) was a Scottish actor known for supporting roles as villains. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and served in the British Army during the Second World War.
Dawson made his film debut in They Met in the Dark (1943) and appeared in British films including The Way to the Stars (1945), The Queen of Spades (1948) and The Wooden Horse (1950). After moving to the United States in the early 1950s, he played Charles Swann in Alfred Hitchcock's Dial M for Murder (1954), having appeared in the Broadway production of the play. He later featured as Professor Dent in Dr. No (1962) and as Ernst Stavro Blofeld (uncredited, with voice dubbed) in From Russia with Love (1963) and Thunderball (1965). Other credits include Midnight Lace (1960) and The Curse of the Werewolf (1961).
