Biography
Anthony Mendleson was a British costume designer. Born on 7 February 1915 in Chiswick, London, he studied art in France and Italy in the 1930s. He began his career as a painter and stage set designer before joining Ealing Studios in 1947 as costume designer and wardrobe supervisor, a role he held until the studio closed in 1959.
His Ealing credits include Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) and The Ladykillers (1955). He later worked at Pinewood Studios on films such as Macbeth (1971), Young Winston (1972) and The Incredible Sarah (1976). He received two BAFTA Awards for Best Costume Design and was nominated for two Academy Awards. Mendleson died in London on 5 September 1996.
