Biography
Arlan Jay Vetter, also credited as Jay Vetter, is a production designer and art director. He studied lighting and scene design at Southern Oregon University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1984, and continued scene design studies at the University of Washington. He worked as a scenic artist at the Seattle Opera before moving to Hollywood, where his first film credit was as assistant art director on Stand and Deliver (1988).
Vetter has collaborated frequently with the Farrelly brothers. His art direction credits include Dumb and Dumber (1994), Kingpin (1996), There's Something About Mary (1998), Me, Myself & Irene (2000) and Shallow Hal (2001). Later production design work encompasses The Heartbreak Kid (2007), Hall Pass (2011), The Three Stooges (2012) and Movie 43 (2013). In 1998 he shared an Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Award for the television film George Wallace.
His television credits as production designer include multiple episodes of Black Lightning (2018–2021) and Grey's Anatomy (2022–2023).
