Biography
Arthur Lange (1889–1956) was an American composer, arranger and bandleader. Born in Philadelphia, he worked in the 1910s as a songwriter, often with lyricist Andrew B. Sterling, and recorded extensively for Cameo Records in the 1920s. He published the textbook Arranging for the Modern Dance Orchestra in 1926 and served as musical director for several dance orchestras.
From 1929 he headed the music department at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and later worked at other studios. He composed or arranged music for more than 120 films, including Cavalcade (1933), The Great Ziegfeld (1936), The Maltese Falcon (1941), The Woman in the Window (1944) and Woman on the Run (1950). Lange received five Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score.
