Biography

Barbara Harris was an American actress. She began acting as a teenager in Chicago and appeared in small parts with the Playwrights Theatre Club. She studied at Wilbur Wright College and made her Broadway debut in 1961.

Harris received a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for The Apple Tree (1966). Her film roles include Nashville (1975), Family Plot (1976), Freaky Friday (1976), Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) as Evelyn Kelcher, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) and Grosse Pointe Blank (1997). She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Who Is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me? (1971) and received four Golden Globe nominations. She retired from acting in the 1990s and later taught.
