Biography
Barbara Jefford was a British actress. She was born in Plymstock, Devon, and trained at the Hartley-Hodder School of Speech and Drama before graduating from RADA in 1949.
Jefford was best known for her classical stage work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Old Vic and the National Theatre. She appeared in almost every Shakespeare play and received an OBE in 1965 for services to the theatre.
Her film roles included Molly Bloom in Ulysses (1967), for which she received a BAFTA nomination, Baroness Kessler in The Ninth Gate (1999), Sister Hildegarde in Philomena (2013) and Collyer's Mother in The Deep Blue Sea (2011). She died in 2020.
