Biography
Barry Nelson was an American stage, film and television actor. Born Robert Haakon Nielsen in San Francisco on 16 April 1917, he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and began his career as a contract player at MGM in the early 1940s.
He appeared in films including Airport (1970) and The Shining (1980), in which he played hotel manager Stuart Ullman. Nelson also had an extensive stage career and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for The Act (1977). He is noted as the first actor to portray Ian Fleming's James Bond, in a 1954 television adaptation of Casino Royale for the anthology series Climax!. Nelson died on 7 April 2007 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
