Biography

Ben Aris was an English actor. Born in London on 16 March 1937, he trained at the Arts Educational School and made his film debut as a child in Tom Brown's Schooldays (1951). He appeared in numerous films and television series from the 1950s until 2002.

He is known for his television roles as Mr Spalding in To the Manor Born (1980–1981) and as Julian Dalrymple-Sykes in Hi-de-Hi! (1984–1988). Other credits include appearances in Doctor Who (1963), Agatha Christie's Poirot (1989) and films such as if.... (1968), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1968), O Lucky Man! (1973) and Tommy (1975). He was also active on stage, including as Rosencrantz in a production of Hamlet and Geoffrey in Stepping Out.

Aris died on 4 September 2003 in Esher, Surrey. He was married to Yemaiel Oved and had two children, including actor Jonathan Aris.
