Biography
Bernard Evein was a French production designer, art director and costume designer. Born in Saint-Nazaire on 5 January 1929, he trained at the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC), graduating in 1951 in the decoration section, and was a school contemporary of Jacques Demy at the Nantes École des Beaux-Arts.
He worked extensively with Demy on eight films, serving as production designer on The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) and The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967). He also contributed to numerous French New Wave productions, including set decoration on The 400 Blows (1959), art direction on Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962) and costume design on Last Year at Marienbad (1961). He was married to costume designer Jacqueline Moreau.
