Biography
Bette Midler is an American actress and singer. Born on 1 December 1945 in Honolulu, Hawaii, she began her career in off-off-Broadway theatre before appearing in the Broadway productions of Fiddler on the Roof and Salvation in the late 1960s.
She rose to prominence performing at the Continental Baths in New York in the early 1970s. Midler made her film debut in the musical drama The Rose (1979). Among her best-known screen roles are Winifred Sanderson in Hocus Pocus (1993) and its 2022 sequel, and appearances in films including The First Wives Club (1996), The Stepford Wives (2004) and The Glorias (2020). She has also voiced characters in animated features such as Oliver & Company (1988) and The Addams Family (2019).
Midler has received four Golden Globe Awards, three Grammy Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards and a Kennedy Center Honor.
