Biography
Bodil Rosing (born Bodil Frederikke Hammerich) was a Danish-American actress. She was born on 27 December 1877 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and trained at the Royal Danish Theatre before working as a stage actress in Denmark. She appeared in around 85 films between 1925 and her death.
Rosing moved to Hollywood in 1924. Her film roles often included matronly characters such as servants and mothers. She is credited as The Maid in F. W. Murnau's Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) and as Mrs. Schmidt in You Can't Take It with You (1938). She also appeared in All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) and Grand Hotel (1932).
She was married to Norwegian doctor Einer Jansen from 1898 until their divorce in 1919; they had four children. One daughter, Tova, married actor Monte Blue. Rosing died of a heart attack on 31 December 1941 in Hollywood, California.
