Biography
Brock Peters was an American actor and singer. Born George Fisher on 2 July 1927 in New York City, he adopted his stage name in the early 1950s. He trained at the High School of Music & Art and made his stage debut in a 1943 revival of the musical Porgy and Bess. His film debut came in Carmen Jones (1954).
Peters gained prominence for his portrayal of Crown in the 1959 film adaptation of Porgy and Bess and as Tom Robinson in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). He received a Tony Award nomination for his leading role in the 1972 Broadway revival of Lost in the Stars. Later film roles included appearances in Soylent Green (1973) and as Admiral Cartwright in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991). On television he played Joseph Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993–1999). Peters died in Los Angeles on 23 August 2005.
