Biography
Burnett Guffey was an American cinematographer who worked on over 100 films between the late 1920s and 1971. Born on 26 May 1905 in Del Rio, Tennessee, he began as an assistant cameraman in 1923 and served as a camera operator on films including John Ford's The Informer (1935) before becoming a director of photography in 1944.
He photographed All the King's Men (1949) and In a Lonely Place (1950), and was noted for his work on film noir. Guffey won Academy Awards for From Here to Eternity (1953) and Bonnie and Clyde (1967), with further nominations for The Harder They Fall (1956), Birdman of Alcatraz (1962) and King Rat (1965). He served as president of the American Society of Cinematographers from 1957 to 1958.
