Biography
Charles Rosher (also credited as Charles G. Rosher or Charles Roscher) was a British-American cinematographer. Born in London in 1885, he moved to the United States in 1909 after working as a newsreel cameraman. He became one of the first full-time cameramen in Hollywood and was a founding member and first vice-president of the American Society of Cinematographers.
Rosher shared the first Academy Award for Best Cinematography with Karl Struss for Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). He won a second Oscar for The Yearling (1946). He worked extensively with Mary Pickford from 1918 to 1927 and shot numerous films for MGM in the later part of his career, including Annie Get Your Gun (1950), Show Boat (1951) and Kiss Me Kate (1953). He died in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1974.
