Biography
Christian Berger (born 13 January 1945) is an Austrian cinematographer. He began working in film and television in the late 1960s and founded his own production company in 1973. He has also directed, written and produced documentaries and feature films, including Raffl (1984).
Berger is known for his long collaboration with director Michael Haneke, serving as director of photography on Benny's Video (1992), 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance (1994), The Piano Teacher (2001), Caché (2005), The White Ribbon (2009) and Happy End (2017). He developed the Cine Reflect Lighting System and has worked with other directors including Angelina Jolie on By the Sea (2015) and János Szász on The Notebook (2013). He teaches cinematography at the Vienna Film Academy.
Berger was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for The White Ribbon and has received other awards including the ASC Award. He is married to actress Marika Green and is the uncle of Eva Green.
