Biography

Christian McKay is an English stage and screen actor. He was born in Bury, Lancashire, and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2001. He is also a classically trained pianist who studied at the University of York and the Royal College of Music.

McKay is best known for his portrayal of Orson Welles in the 2008 film Me and Orson Welles, a role he originated in the one-man stage play Rosebud: The Lives of Orson Welles. He has appeared in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), Rush (2013) as Lord Hesketh, The Theory of Everything (2014) as Roger Penrose, Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) as Earl Wilson, and Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022). He received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Me and Orson Welles.
