Biography
Chuck Roberson (also credited as Charles Hugh Roberson) was an American actor and stuntman. Born on 10 May 1919 near Shannon, Texas, he died on 8 June 1988. Raised on cattle ranches, he worked as a cowhand and oilfield roughneck before serving in the US Army during the Second World War and later joining the Culver City Police Department.
Roberson entered the film industry through stunt work and became a frequent stand-in for John Wayne. He appeared in small roles, often uncredited, in numerous Westerns including The Searchers (1956), Rio Bravo (1959), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) and El Dorado (1966), as well as Spartacus (1960) and The Alamo (1960). He played Wilkes in Shock Corridor (1963) and worked as a second-unit director on several productions. His television credits include episodes of Gunsmoke, Bonanza and The Virginian.
