Biography
Clive Merrison is a Welsh actor known for work in film, television, stage and radio. Born on 15 September 1945 in Tenby, he trained at Rose Bruford College.
He is best known for his BBC Radio 4 portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in all 64 episodes of the 1989–1998 series and 16 further episodes of The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (2002–2010). On stage and screen he played the headmaster in Alan Bennett’s The History Boys, appearing in the original National Theatre and Broadway productions as well as the 2006 film. His film roles include Dr. Henry Hulme in Heavenly Creatures (1994), Fenelon-Barnes in The English Patient (1996) and the forger in Escape to Victory (1981).
