Biography

Damon Jamal Gupton (born 4 January 1973) is an American actor and orchestral conductor. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, and studied at the University of Michigan, where he earned a bachelor's degree in music education, and at the Juilliard School.

Gupton is known for series regular roles including Charles Foster on Deadline (2000–2001), Evrard Velerio on Prime Suspect (2011–2012), Adam Page on The Divide (2014), Detective Cal Brown on The Player (2015), Deputy Chief Henderson on Black Lightning (2018–2020), and SSA Stephen Walker on Criminal Minds (2016–2017). His film credits include Monk Gyatso in The Last Airbender (2010), Mr. Kramer in Whiplash (2014), and Harry in La La Land (2016). He has also worked extensively as a conductor, serving as an American Conducting Fellow with the Houston Symphony and assistant conductor of the Kansas City Symphony, and has appeared with orchestras including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Detroit Symphony.
