Biography
Daniel J. Lester is an American costume designer. He began his career managing a boutique at Fred Segal in Hollywood before working at Western Costume Company and with designers including Theodora Van Runkle and Moss Mabry. He later partnered with Marilyn Vance on films such as The Untouchables (1987), Pretty Woman (1990) and The Rocketeer (1991).
Lester received an Emmy nomination for the miniseries Dallas: The Early Years (1986). His first solo feature credit was Timecop (1994), on which he also collaborated with production designer Phillip Harrison; they worked together again on The Relic (1997), Spawn (1997) and The Core (2003). He has designed costumes for I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), 12 Strong (2018) and the series Once Upon a Time (2017–2018), for which he received a Costume Designers Guild nomination. He is also known for assisting on military-themed films including The Hurt Locker (2008).
