Biography
Dennis Vance (18 March 1924 – 12 October 1983) was a British television producer, director and occasional actor. Born in Birkenhead, Cheshire, he served as a Fleet Air Arm pilot during the Second World War. After the war he began acting in small film roles before moving into production with BBC Television in the early 1950s.
In 1955 he became the first Head of Drama at ABC Weekend TV, where he oversaw the creation of the anthology series Armchair Theatre. He later returned to directing, helming an episode of The Avengers in 1961 and episodes of Public Eye in the early 1970s. His later credits included producing and directing series such as The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes (1971) and The Bass Player and the Blonde (1978).
