Biography
Derek Brechin was a Scottish film editor. He began his career in the late 1970s as an editorial apprentice and assistant editor on features including Fast Break (1979) and Loving Couples (1980). He later worked as assistant editor on Die Hard (1988) and Basic Instinct (1992).
Brechin received his first lead editing credit on Stargate (1994), which he co-edited with Michael J. Duthie. He went on to edit Breakdown (1997), Deep Blue Sea (1999), Thir13en Ghosts (2001), Doom (2005) and other action and science-fiction films. He also contributed additional editing to The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) and Iron Man (2008). Brechin died in Glendale, California, in 2009.
