Biography
Dick Clement is an English screenwriter, director and producer. Born on 5 September 1937 in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, he was educated at Bishop's Stortford College. He is best known for his long-term writing partnership with Ian La Frenais.
Together they created several acclaimed British television series, including The Likely Lads (1964–66), Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? (1973–74), Porridge (1974–77) and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet (1983–2004). Their film credits include The Commitments (1991), Still Crazy (1998), Goal! (2005), Flushed Away (2006), Across the Universe (2007) and The Bank Job (2008). Clement has also directed some of their adaptations.
Clement and La Frenais have lived in the United States since the 1980s. Clement was appointed OBE in the 2007 Queen's Birthday Honours.
