Biography
Dileep Rao is an American actor. Born in Los Angeles, California, on 29 July 1973, he holds a BA from the University of California, San Diego and an MFA from the American Conservatory Theater. He began his career in regional theatre, including productions at Berkeley Repertory Theatre and South Coast Repertory, after an early stage role in the American premiere of Tom Stoppard's Indian Ink.
Rao is known for supporting roles in major films, including Rham Jas in Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell (2009), Dr Max Patel in James Cameron's Avatar (2009) and its sequels Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025), and Yusuf in Christopher Nolan's Inception (2010). He has also appeared in television series such as Mr. Robot (2015) and Brothers & Sisters (2006).
