Biography
Duane Tatro was an American composer and jazz musician. Born in Van Nuys, California, he played saxophone with Stan Kenton’s band at the age of 16, served in the US Navy during World War II, and studied music at the University of Southern California. He also studied in Paris with Arthur Honegger and Darius Milhaud.
Tatro composed music for numerous television series from the late 1960s onwards, including Mission: Impossible (1966), MASH (1972), The Streets of San Francisco (1972), Cannon (1971), The Love Boat (1977) and Dynasty (1981). He composed the theme for The Manhunter (1974) and contributed to many other Quinn Martin productions and long-running shows. His 1956 album Jazz for Moderns* is among his earlier jazz recordings.
Tatro died in Bell Canyon, California, in 2020.
