Biography
E. W. Swackhamer (born Egbert Warnderink Swackhamer Jr.) was an American television and film director. Born on 17 January 1927 in Middletown Township, New Jersey, he died on 5 December 1994 in Berlin, Germany.
He began his career in theatre as an actor, stage manager and director on Broadway, off-Broadway and in national companies, including as stage manager for the original production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. He moved to Hollywood in 1961. His television credits include episodes of Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, MASH (1972), Columbo, Law & Order and others. He directed 27 television pilots, of which 18 became series, among them Eight Is Enough, Quincy, M.E. and S.W.A.T.. He received a Primetime Emmy nomination for directing the 1978 miniseries The Dain Curse*.
Swackhamer also directed the feature film Man and Boy (1972). He was married to actress Bridget Hanley.
