Biography
Gabrielle Beaumont (born Gabrielle Toyne) was a British television and film director. Born on 7 April 1942 in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, she began her career at the BBC as an editor before working as an assistant director, production manager and producer on documentaries and films. She directed the 1980 horror film The Godsend, for which her then husband Olaf Pooley wrote the screenplay.
Beaumont moved to the United States in 1980 and became one of the most prolific female directors of episodic television during the 1980s and 1990s. Her credits include episodes of MASH (1981), Hill Street Blues, Dynasty, Miami Vice, Beverly Hills, 90210 and Law & Order. In 1989 she directed the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode 'Booby Trap', becoming the first woman to direct an episode of any Star Trek series; she later worked on Deep Space Nine and Voyager*.
She also wrote and directed the 1998 television film Diana: A Tribute to the People's Princess. Beaumont died on 8 October 2022 in Fornalutx, Mallorca, Spain.
