Biography

Bobby Roth is an American film and television director, producer and screenwriter. Born Robert Jay Roth in Los Angeles in 1950, he studied philosophy and creative writing at the University of California, Berkeley, before earning a BA in Cinema from the University of Southern California in 1972 and an MFA in Motion Picture Production from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1975.

Roth made his directorial debut with the 1976 feature Independence Day, which he also wrote and produced. His 1984 film Heartbreakers screened at the Berlin International Film Festival. He has directed numerous television episodes and films, including work on Lost (2004), Prison Break (2005), Grey's Anatomy (2005), The Mentalist (2008), Fringe (2008), Criminal Minds (2005) and MacGyver (2016). He has also directed independent features exhibited at festivals worldwide.
