Biography
Hy Averback was an American actor, producer and director. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he began in radio as an announcer before appearing as an actor in television series such as Our Miss Brooks and I Love Lucy in the 1950s.
He moved into directing in the late 1950s, helming episodes of The Real McCoys, Columbo (1971) and 20 episodes of MASH (1972–1982). He also supplied the voice of the loudspeaker announcer on MASH and co-produced the sitcom F Troop.
Averback received three Primetime Emmy nominations for directing. He died in Los Angeles, California, in 1997.
