Biography

Jackie Cooper (1922–2011) was an American actor and director. Born John Cooper Jr. in Los Angeles, he began his career as a child actor in the late 1920s, appearing in the Our Gang series and earning an Academy Award nomination for best actor at the age of nine for the 1931 film Skippy.

As an adult, Cooper starred in television series including The People's Choice (1955–1958) and Hennesey (1959–1962). He later directed episodes of programmes such as MASH and received two Primetime Emmy Awards for directing. He is best known to film audiences for portraying Perry White, editor of the Daily Planet, in Superman (1978) and its three sequels through to Superman IV: The Quest for Peace* (1987). He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
