Biography
Ed Bishop (1932–2005) was an American actor, predominantly based in the United Kingdom. Born George Victor Bishop in Brooklyn, New York, he was known professionally as Ed Bishop or Edward Bishop. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art after earlier studies at Boston University.
Bishop's film roles included an ambulance attendant in Lolita (1962) and the Aries-1B Lunar Shuttle Captain in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). He appeared uncredited in the James Bond films You Only Live Twice (1967) and Diamonds Are Forever (1971). On television he played Commander Ed Straker in the series UFO (1970–71) and provided the voice of Captain Blue, as well as narration, in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (1967). He also voiced Philip Marlowe in BBC Radio adaptations of the Raymond Chandler novels.
