Biography
Embeth Davidtz is an American and South African actress and director. Born on 11 August 1965 in Lafayette, Indiana, to South African parents, she moved with her family to South Africa at the age of nine. She graduated from The Glen High School in Pretoria in 1983 and studied at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, beginning her acting career with the National Theatre Company in Johannesburg.
Davidtz gained international attention for her performance as Helen Hirsch in Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List (1993). Her other film roles include Sheila in Army of Darkness (1992), Miss Honey in Matilda (1996), Natasha in Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) and Mary Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its 2014 sequel. In 2024 she made her directorial debut with Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight.
