Biography
Emma Donoghue is an Irish-Canadian novelist, screenwriter and playwright. Born in Dublin in October 1969, she holds a PhD in English from the University of Cambridge and has lived in Canada since the late 1990s.
She is best known for her 2010 novel Room, which she adapted into the 2015 film of the same name, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Her other screenwriting credits include The Wonder (2022) and the co-written screenplay for H Is for Hawk (2025), based on Helen Macdonald's memoir.
