Biography

Eric Christmas (also credited as Eric Cuthbert Christmas) was an English actor with a career spanning stage and screen from the 1930s until his death. Born in London, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and worked in English repertory theatre before emigrating to Canada in 1948.

He was a foundational performer at the Stratford Festival, appearing in 12 seasons and 21 Shakespearean productions between 1957 and 1970. On film he played the Priest in Harold and Maude (1971) and Mr Carter in the Porky's trilogy (1981–1985). His television credits include guest roles in Seinfeld, The X-Files, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and ER, as well as the recurring part of Reverend Diddymoe in Amen.

Christmas also taught drama at the University of California, San Diego, and directed productions at theatres including the Old Globe in San Diego. He died in Camarillo, California, in 2000.
