Biography
Etan Frankel is an American playwright and television writer and producer. He graduated from Duke University and completed the playwriting programme at the Juilliard School.
He began his career writing plays, including Truth and Reconciliation, which won the Williamstown Theatre Festival's Weissberger Playwriting Award in 2006. He moved into television writing with episodes of Gossip Girl in 2008 and joined the staff of Friday Night Lights for its fourth season in 2009, earning a Writers Guild of America nomination for Best Drama Series.
Frankel worked on Shameless from 2011 to 2016 as writer and producer. His other credits include Animal Kingdom, Get Shorty, Sorry for Your Loss and the limited series Joe vs. Carole, which he created. In 2026 he signed a first-look deal with Fox Entertainment Studios.
