Biography
Eugene Zador (born Jenő Zádor) was a Hungarian-American composer. Born in Bátaszék, Hungary, he studied at the Vienna Conservatory and in Leipzig with Max Reger before teaching in Vienna and Budapest. He emigrated to the United States in 1939 and settled in Hollywood.
In Hollywood he worked primarily as an orchestrator on more than 100 film scores, often uncredited, in collaboration with composers including Miklós Rózsa. His credits include orchestration on Spellbound (1945), The Asphalt Jungle (1950), Quo Vadis (1951) and Ben-Hur (1959). He also composed original music for several films, including The Mortal Storm (1940).
Alongside his film work Zador composed operas, symphonies and other concert pieces. He continued composing until his death in Los Angeles in 1977.
