Biography
Felix Bressart was a German-born actor of stage and screen. He made his stage debut in 1914 as Malvolio in Twelfth Night and appeared in productions across several European countries. His film debut came in the late 1920s; he began in supporting roles in German films such as Die Drei von der Tankstelle (1930).
Following the Nazi seizure of power in 1933, Bressart left Germany and worked in Austrian films before emigrating to the United States. He appeared in Hollywood from 1939, often in supporting roles at MGM, including Comrade Buljanoff in Ninotchka (1939), Pirovitch in The Shop Around the Corner (1940), and Greenberg in To Be or Not to Be (1942). Other credits include The Seventh Cross (1944), A Song Is Born (1948) and Portrait of Jennie (1948).
Bressart was married to Frieda Lehner from 1925 until his death in Los Angeles in 1949.
