Biography
Ferdinando Scarfiotti was an Italian art director and production designer. Born on 6 March 1941 in Potenza Picena, Marche, he studied architecture at the University of Rome before working in opera and theatre design.
He began his film career with Bernardo Bertolucci on The Conformist (1970) and Luchino Visconti on Death in Venice (1971). Scarfiotti later collaborated on American Gigolo (1980), Cat People (1982), Scarface (1983), The Last Emperor (1987) and Toys (1992). He won a BAFTA Award for Death in Venice and an Academy Award for Best Art Direction for The Last Emperor.
