Biography

Frank Griebe is a German cinematographer born on 28 August 1964 in Hamburg. He trained as a film copy maker and camera assistant before becoming a director of photography in 1991.

Griebe has had a long-standing collaboration with director Tom Tykwer, serving as cinematographer on all of Tykwer's feature films from Deadly Maria (1993) onwards, including Run Lola Run (1998), The Princess and the Warrior (2000), Heaven (2002), Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006) and Cloud Atlas (2012, shared credit with John Toll). He has also worked with directors including Sebastian Schipper on Absolute Giganten (1999) and Franka Potente on Home (2020).

Griebe has received several awards, including the German Film Award for Run Lola Run, Winter Sleepers (1997) and Trains 'n' Roses (1998), the European Film Award for Perfume, and the Marburg Camera Award in 2002. He shared the 2013 German Film Award for Cloud Atlas.
