Biography
Fredric Steinkamp was an American film editor. He began his career in the sound department at MGM Studios and received his first editing credit on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1960). He worked as a full-time editor at the studio from 1959 to 1967 and later edited more than 40 films.
Steinkamp had a long collaboration with director Sydney Pollack, editing nearly all of his films from They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) to Sabrina (1995). From 1980 he frequently co-edited with his son William Steinkamp. He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Grand Prix (1966) and received Oscar nominations for They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), Three Days of the Condor (1975), Tootsie (1982) and Out of Africa (1985). He was awarded the American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award in 2001.
