Biography
Gary Murphy is an American television writer and producer. Born on 17 June 1952 in San Francisco, California, he has written for series including Happy Days (1974), Night Court (1984), Caroline in the City (1998–1999), Malcolm in the Middle (2000–2006), God, the Devil and Bob (2000), The Exes (2011–2015), Alexa & Katie (2018) and Sydney to the Max (2019–2021). He also wrote the screenplay for the feature film Without a Clue (1988).
Murphy worked as a co-executive producer on Malcolm in the Middle and contributed writing to its 2026 revival miniseries Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair. He has received three Primetime Emmy nominations, including for Outstanding Comedy Series as co-executive producer on Malcolm in the Middle.
