Biography
Gene R. Kearney was an American television and film writer, director and producer. Born in New York City, he attended Berkshire School in Massachusetts, served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, and graduated with honours from Harvard University, where he contributed to the student newspaper The Harvard Crimson. He began his career in radio and documentary film work before moving to California in the early 1960s.
Kearney wrote episodes of Mission: Impossible (1970), Kojak (1974–1978, also as story editor and producer), Night Gallery (1971–1972, also as director) and other series including Switch and Lou Grant. His film credits include the screenplay for Night of the Lepus (1972) and earlier work on Games (1967). He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy and died in Los Angeles on 4 November 1979.
