Biography
Geoffrey Burgon (1941–2010) was an English composer of film and television scores as well as concert, choral and stage works. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and worked initially as a jazz trumpeter before devoting himself to composition, studying privately with Lennox Berkeley.
He came to prominence with his scores for the BBC series Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1979) and the Granada adaptation of Brideshead Revisited (1981), each of which won him an Ivor Novello Award. Other notable screen credits include Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979), incidental music for Doctor Who (1975–1976), The Dogs of War (1980), The Chronicles of Narnia (1988–1989), Robin Hood (1991) and the 2002 remake of The Forsyte Saga. He received BAFTA Awards for his music for Longitude (2000) and The Forsyte Saga.
