Biography
George Duning (25 February 1908 – 27 February 2000) was an American composer of film and television scores. Born in Richmond, Indiana, he studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
In the 1930s and 1940s he played trumpet and piano with the Kay Kyser band and arranged music for its radio programme. He joined Columbia Pictures in 1946 and remained there until the early 1960s, scoring films including From Here to Eternity (1953), Picnic (1955), The Man from Laramie (1955), 3:10 to Yuma (1957) and Bell, Book and Candle (1958). He received five Academy Award nominations for his work.
Duning later worked extensively in television, contributing scores to Star Trek (1966), The Big Valley and Naked City. He composed more than 300 film and television scores in total.
