Biography
Gerard Murphy was a Northern Irish actor who worked in film, television and theatre. Born Eamon Gerard Murphy on 14 October 1948 in Newry, County Down, he began his career on stage with the Glasgow Citizens Theatre and maintained a long association with the Royal Shakespeare Company as an associate artist.
His film roles include Nord in Waterworld (1995) and Judge Faden in Batman Begins (2005). On television he appeared in Doctor Who (as Richard Maynarde in the 1988 serial Silver Nemesis), Father Ted, The Bill, Spooks and other series. He also narrated the BBC Radio adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. Murphy died on 26 August 2013 in Cambridge, England.
