Biography
Godfrey Quigley (4 May 1923 – 7 September 1994) was an Irish film, television and stage actor. Born in Jerusalem, Mandatory Palestine, where his father was serving with the British Army, he moved with his family to Ireland in the 1930s. After military service in the Second World War, he trained at the Abbey School of Acting in Dublin.
Quigley made his film debut in Saints and Sinners (1949). He appeared in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (1971) as the prison chaplain and Barry Lyndon (1975) as Captain Grogan. Other notable film roles include Eddie in Get Carter (1971), Dortmun in Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. (1966) and Rita's father in Educating Rita (1983). His final screen role was voicing a terrier in All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989).
On stage he co-founded the Globe Theatre Company in the 1950s and won the Harvey's Best Actor Award in 1984 for his role in Tom Murphy's The Gigli Concert. He also appeared in British television series including The Avengers and The Saint.
