Biography
Harry Lauter was an American character actor. Born Herman Arthur Lauter on 19 June 1914 in White Plains, New York, he died on 30 October 1990 in Ojai, California.
His screen career began in 1946. He appeared in supporting roles in low-budget films and serials, and in numerous television programmes during the 1950s. He played one of the leads, Clay Morgan, in the series Tales of the Texas Rangers (1955–1958). He is also credited as General Winthrop in Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971), and in smaller parts in films including The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963).
Later in life he devoted time to painting and ran an art gallery.
