Biography
Hong Kyung-pyo (also credited as Hong Gyeong-pyo, Hong Kyeong-pyo or Alex Hong) is a South Korean cinematographer. He was born on 11 August 1962 in Chilgok, North Gyeongsang Province.
He began working in the film industry in the late 1980s and made his debut as a cinematographer in the mid-1990s. Hong has collaborated extensively with directors including Bong Joon-ho on Mother (2009), Snowpiercer (2013) and Parasite (2019); Lee Chang-dong on Burning (2018); and Na Hong-jin on The Wailing (2016). His other credits include Broker (2022), directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, and Harbin (2024).
In 2025 he became the first cinematographer to receive the Grand Prize for Film at the Baeksang Arts Awards, for his work on Harbin.
