Biography

Ian McNeice is an English actor. He was born on 2 October 1950 in Basingstoke, Hampshire. He trained at Taunton School in Somerset, spent two years at the Salisbury Playhouse and studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) from 1971 to 1974.

McNeice spent four years with the Royal Shakespeare Company, including a Broadway run in Nicholas Nickleby. His television breakthrough came as Harcourt in the 1985 series Edge of Darkness. He is known for playing Bert Large in Doc Martin (2004–2022), Winston Churchill in Doctor Who (2010–2011), the Newsreader in Rome (2005–2007) and Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in the miniseries Dune (2000) and Children of Dune (2003).

On film he played Fulton Greenwall in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995), appeared in From Hell (2001) and voiced Kwaltz in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005).
