Biography

Jack Carson, also credited as John Elmer Carson, was a Canadian-born American actor. Born in Carman, Manitoba, on 27 October 1910, he died in Encino, California, on 2 January 1963.

He began in vaudeville and radio before entering films in the late 1930s with RKO. Most of his work was for Warner Bros., where he appeared in supporting roles in comedies and dramas. He is known for playing Wally Fay in Mildred Pierce (1945), Officer Patrick O'Hara in Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), Matt Libby in A Star Is Born (1954) and Gooper Pollitt in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958). He also appeared in television series including The Twilight Zone (1959) and Bonanza (1959).
